A report of the Town Board held on Monday last is crowded out at the last moment to make room for telegrams.
The first entry in the Customs at Tauranga has been passed by Captain Hansen of the good ship Bella, with a cargo of general merchandise from Auckland. Captain Hansen will hereafter enjoy the pride of pointing to this circumstance in the annals of what is doubtless destined to be the centre of a great maritime and commercial population ; and in time to come he will bo able to remind his children, or perhaps bis children's children, of the small beginnings leading to great consequences, in which he had the opportunity of leading the way.
p* an arrived from Whangamata yesterday bringing intelligence that a number of natives have driven Mr Alley’s cuttle from off his run in that locality. We give the report for what it is worth.
•M-^Pipk ar * eß Bartlett has recently completed for Mr iho mas Morrison a very nice cottage on the Cameron Hoad, near to the residence of Mrs Crapp. The situation is delightful, commanding a splendid view from all quarters. The cottage contains four rooms 14 i 13, handsome entrance hall, and tastefully constructed verandah. The kitchen is a detached building. Mr Bartlett (builder), Mr Borfchwick (painter and paperhanger), and Mr Sickers (plumber) haTe one and all their several portions of the work in an efficient and thoroughly tradesmanlike manner. Mr O Mears, surveyor, arrived in Tauranga from Ohinemutu on Saturday morning, and left the same evening by the Southern Cross for Auckland. Mr O’Meara informs ns that he was compelled by Lieutenant Bluett, of the Native Contingent, acting on behalf of the General Government, to stop the survey of some native lands he was carrying on in that district. Louis Narey, tailor, &c„ has removed from his old quarters to the house adjacent to the forge formerly occupied by Mr Young. N.B.—Look out for the French flag. — £Adt.j A Provincial Government Gazette of the 11th instant acknowledges receipt by the Provincial Secretary of the new assessment list for the district of Opotiki.
