CORRESPONDENCE.

Wfi do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents. A REPLY TO “ QDiEEE.” TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Before your correspondent “ Quaere” breaks out into abusive ridicule of the Church Committee he might take the pains to verify his statements. The architect, it is true, has completed the plans, but the specifications, which form a necessary adjunct thereto, have not been completed, and it follows that tenders cannot be called for until they are. The statement, also, that the committee have had “ most liberal subscriptions poured into their laps” is untrue, as the subscriptions still remain unpaid ; and until they are paid up no action can be taken in calling for tenders, as it is not likely that the committee, or their secretary by doing so, will become responsible for their payment. Quaere,” whilst lavishing praise upon Mr Barrows in one sentence, pours abuse upon him in another as a member of the Church Committee. This, to say the least of it, is inconsistent, and hardly calculated to make him give up more of his spare time gratuitously to suit “ Qusere’s ’ ill-timed impatience. I should, Mr Editor, have treated the letter with the silent contempt it deserves, but for the wrong impression it is intended to convey, and the injury it is likely to do by damping the exertions of those, who, if left to themselves, will do their duty without the necessity of either “ Quaere's ” assistance or interference.—l am, &c., One of tub Church Committee. Tauranga, September 11, 1573.
