Wellington, Tuesday Evening. i In House this afternoon, Native Lands Bill was 'Considered in committee. A few amendments were made, and clause added to bring Bill into operation upon Ist of January next. Progress reported. ° 'i'hird readings brought on=:—Land Grant Bill Merchant Shipping Act Adoption Bill, Steam Navigation Act Amendment Bill, Goldfields Bill was discharged on motion to go into committee. “ On Insolvency Bill, Sheehan opposed Bill. He said it would make bankruptcy a lucrative ‘practies, and moved that Bill be discharged. Brown Shepherd, and Gillies opposed Bill. Swanson i?aid perhaps it was better than existing law. Reynolds and Bathgate defended Bill. It was discharged on division—2l to 19. Diseased Cattle Act Amendment Bill was read ■3, second time. In House to-day, Mr Macandrew gave notice of •question, “What steps Government were taking to reduce price of telegrams to United Kingdom?’’ Mr Luckie gave notice of question as to whether Government intended to taka steps to •establish an Agricultural College ? Mr Beeves gave notice of question, “Why Ministry altered intentions expressed in 187 X to craise excise duties on spirits-f” In reply to Mr Murray, the Minister ef eaid that Mr Henry Driver valued Port Chalmers railway at £9,MO, and received £l3B 15s remuneration for so doing. Mr W. Kelly has moved that the Tauranga University Reserve of 200,000 acres, should be aisea tor special settlement purposes. Agreed to.
