The building of fk Omanawa Bridge is rapidly * progressing. The eavy work is done, the chords are all in their ploc'b and, if the contractors are fortunate in tho 'ether, it will be finished in . about a fortnight It is a very solid structure, and
the way in widest is put together reflects great credit upon the ontractor (Mr Bumpus). Every ; piece, botii ofwodand iron, is ni * fly fitted ; and, I' though heavy, -his bridge will when finished be i the best an- prettiest in the district. Of course its gretest recommendation is its utility. Those bavin land between the Omanawa and Pamgaroa w 1 now be able to occupy, hitherto an almost imji pbility owing to the difficulty of getting bar * 'fl forwards, the river being a , t.Jal one. •■‘A the best of times very incoa- / venient.

We congratulate our Opotiki friends on tfe Opening of Mr J. K. Buahton’e Ohiwa Hot*. Crrent inconvenience must have been experienc'd by intending passengers from Opotiki to Aucklad pir Southern Cross, as that steamer generalf makes Ohiwa her port of call owing to the dilOulty of crossing the bar at Opotiki in bi weather. Passengers have hitherto had to go ) Ohiwa, and after perhaps spending the night i a not, over-cleanly Maori whare, waiting for te Steamer, been disappointed, and returned, only) Pear, probably next day, that the Cross was i sight about half an hour after their departm. |How different the case is now that there is i Terminus hotel. Passengers to Opotiki will b able to recruit themselves alter the unpleasantnes of set-sickn-ss, &c., find comfortable quarters fr the night and a horse to transport them in th jiiortiu g to their destination ; whilst travellei from Opotiki will be able to install themselves t their ease under the hospitable roof of > Bush ton, when waiting for the steamer. Bi, independent of this, a tract of some 3,000 acres f fertile laud, which has been allotted to militar settlers, lies about three miles up the river, andv place where goods may be stored ready for trail mission to Auckland will, we have no douh prove a great inducement to settlers to take D and cultivate their lands.
