Debate accordingly adjourned t~il to-day. House went into committee on Licensing Bill. Clauses 17, 18, and 19 were passed. A long d'-ou ion ensued on clause 20, which was eventually p eed. This clause givea applicant', for licenses a right to appear by agent on in ieal certificate being produced. Clause 2.3: Amendment proposed making refusal of licenses compulsory on memorial, signed by not less than two-thirds of adult residents of district, against same. After a long discussion, amendment was carried—2l to 11. SPECIAL. Wo have to acknowledge the courtesy of Mr W. Kelly, M H.R., for the following important and satisfactory telegram received from Wi-Ilim*-ton last night: Mr V-ogel proposed last night, in introducing Provincial Loans Bill, that the colony give £5 ,000 to North Island to purchase land on provincial property, distributed as follows : Auckland, £250,00; Wellington, £150,0< *; Hawke's Bay, £SO, 0 ; Taranaki, £SO/ JO.
