ENTRIES
Messrs Witiy-kur and Tussel’s rh Johnny, aged Mr T»m Endergon’a 1 b h J.S., aged Mr Joe Mazo d b h Provincial Bay. First on the list comes “ Johnny/ 5 ahorse wellknown to many as having been beaten three out of five races' He stands about 14 hands high, rather a bony animal, with an ugly head and face* not at all suited to a racehorse ; he has a wiokod eye, is very vicious in harness, and has on several occasions severely bitten his owners, and was very nearly kicking our Superintendent at the last races. Ho is by “ Print ers Devil,” out of “ Nell Flarrettv,” own brother to “ Turncoat/ 5 and his owners have oeciareu mm to win. Lie has lately changed stables, and it is rumoured, he will be ridden by floppy Drake, of Queen street, his old jockey, Faddy iiooilcld, declining the mount fearing a fall ; very wise of him too, for the old hor.-e ■•.« sure to come to grief in the last mile. .> .S. co.nos next on the list, but in the race be will be l]rst or I shall bo much mistaken, being the best horse of the three ; and though ho ia unknown upon the turf he will astonish "some of . the knowing ones. Why his owner has not brought him out before is a mystery to all, for he lias long been looked upon as the beat horse in the province, and if ho does not break down in training be will make the running too hot for poor “Johnny/ 5 He is being trained by a wellknown Turfite who has backed him heavily, and I un self intend to hot my bottom dollar that ho wins, ife is by ” John O’Groat/’ out of !< Kaller Herrin,’ 5 brother to “Tain O’Shanter/’ and will bo ridden by Napier’s famous jockey, Watts. Provincial Bay is, X believe, a young horse, ; overmatched, therefore lot his owners beware ’ and if they are wise they will scratch him, and eavc their money, for he'ia a shy horse, in fact he will shy at anything except red tape and lawyers. Be is by “ Emigrant /- gent,” out of “ Trickery/' brother to “ Railway X'est is somewhat vicious, and I shall bo much surprised if he starts for this moo, therefore if the sporting fraternity of this province wish to save their dollars now and hereafter.
l et. them bank “.T.S.” through thick and thin, For he’s ilia horse that’s sure to win. * I.C , Gisborne.
