We are indebted to Mr W. Kelly, M..H.IL, for the following gratifying intelligence; Wellington, Tuesday Evening. Mr O’Rorke, in reply to a question from Mr William Kelly, to-day, stated that a member of the Government west to Tanmnga a short time ago to make arrangements for location of immigrants in that locality. Two thousand had left England for Auckland province. A number of these will he located at Tauranga. ILand being now surveyed for settlement.
Mr O’Connor retracted his statement, and announced electoral number on East Coast 657.

RioiiardsO'Si Minister of Public Works, for a fail telegraphic report of the Public Works Statement made by him in the House of Representatives late on Friday night, from which we condense the following, as being likely to interest our reader.". The Hon. Mr Richardson, the Minister of Public Work«, moved for leave to introduce a Bill to amend “The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1872.” Ho said ha would avail himself of tho opportunity to make the annual statement of the progress of public works. He thanked his predecessors, Mr Ormond and Mr Reeves, for valuable information ua to the position of various matters ; and ho said that through the arduous exertions of tho officers, especially Mr Carruthers and Mr Blackett, the Government
had been enabled to pe> form t heir promises. The enormous work in preparing returns called for by members almost stopped the ordinary work of tho department during last se.-.sion. Other large tracts of land had been secured On long teases. The expenditure for such lands, during tho year hud been £36,055, and the total amount was £80,319. hor this sum 771,841) acres have been purchased, and 556,569 acres purchased for the purpose of an additional railway. A flyit% survey had been made to ascertain whether the I hatnes district could bo connected with tho trunk lino from Auckland. Tho question was before tha House, but it not intended to incur further expundif urc at pro i-nf.
