ATTEMPTED SUICIDE OB' A NATIVE. A native named Ihaka, of the Nga to Saubota tribe, residing at Orakeifcorako, Taupo district, made an attempt to destroy himself on Tuesday last by deliberately taking a knife and cutting a gash across his throat, injuring wind-pipe but not the artery. llis wound was speedily attended to, and it was thought the patient was penitent and sensible of the danger of ins rash act, but upon being left alone shortly afterwards, ho again cut the stitches, laying opon his wound in a fearful manner. Ihaka’s mind has for some time past, wo learn, been affected, but none of his friends anticipated that he would attempt self-destruction. It is very improbable that ho will ever recover. Ihaka was one of the late Captain St. (jeorge’s staunchest friends and protectors on the sheep station up to the of Te Xooti’s visit to tho Taupo district.
