TALL WRITTING.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I bog to nail your attention to an evil that has grown very prevalent of late, and which jour own good Mens© will teach juii should be put a stop to. I refer to the habit which some of your correspondent* have lately contracted, of “ cutting up ” the effusions of other correspondents. For example, the warlike “ J.T.8.” was hauled over the coals most severely for a few words which he wrote in defence of his commanding officer. Then again, “ An Elector,” for presuming to express his opinion that Captain Norris is a good and efficient man to represent us in the Provincial Council, gets severely censured by a** Working Man,” who coolly asserts that “Elector” must ho a-” toad eater” of the gallant Captain’s, or else he must be chaffing him. Next we have “ Terpsi* chore ” complimenting “ Tommy Dod ” with the epithet of ignoramus . Study mythology, oh “Terpsichore !” and tell us why you sign yourself by that name. I always thought that Terpsichore was the goddess of dancing, and not of musio. But then I may be an ignoramus like “Tommy Dod.” One more word for “Terpsichore”—-I should recommend him before indulging in any more personalities, to recollect the well known text about the mote in his brother’s ey® and the beam in hi« own. These criticisms make men who are not well educated afraid to makelHeir views known through your paper. They say, and with some reason, that should they write to the paper they are ahnr>«t. sure to make some grammatical error, and are liable to have their honest opinions made fun of. and their English pulled to pieces by the facetious “ Silver Pen,” the persdnai “Tommy Dod,” or the satirical “Bohemian." Hoping that this style of thing tai# eee#e f £ •*» *«-. A^imqpu.
