THE TAURANGA TOWN BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sot, — As wo are on the eve of another election for tho Town Board, 1 would suggest that the intending candidates should hold a public meeting and express their views and opinions as to the future management of the affairs of tho Board. I think and hope that every right minded elector will concur with me that belter management is wanted without a doubt. When the lime comes, 1 trust that practical men wid be elected. We do not, want any of tho so-called upper ten. Wo want 'practical men, that can carry out any little work without referring to tho engineer that the present Board have appointed, at an enormous cost of 3 5 percent. By getting practical men the Board might save many pounds in the year to tho electors. The present members are conspicuous us agitating to make tho Ihcvonport Koad, because all, or nearly nil, of their interest lays that way ; and where does it lead to but into a swamp ? iiy making tho above road it would only benefit a few, principally the members of the present Board. Now, sir, I simply suy that this work would be a piece of gross injustice to both town and country ratepayers, though no doubt it. would be all very Weil for a few who live in that locality, Surely, wo must consider the country people aa well. They have not got a decent road by which they might get in or out of town. I think that in tho first thing the future Board should look to and have done. Again, all work should bo let by public tender, however small the amount, which, in many instances, hag not been done ; and let, bo square and above board, and have no bole and corner work.

I urn sorry to hare occupied so much of rour apace, but 1 thought it was time for some ono to take the mutter m hand. Fellow ratepayers, be wise and cl vet practical men. You hare got one good man in the field already—Mr John Conway —and I should like to see his name at the head of the poll. —I am, &c , ToWSSiUK.
