Abbitals. —J ULY. 2 Southern Cross, s.s., Sellars, from Auckland. Passengers—Mrs McDonald, Mrs Woodward, Messrs Oardno, McDonald, Esdale, Parsons, Thurban, and others. Depabtctees.—July. 3- Cross, s.s., Sellars, for Opotiki.
The Southern Cross arrived from Auckland on Wednesday afternoon, after an average passage. She left for Ohiwa on Thursday evening, and will steam for Auckland to-night. An Auckland contemporary says :—“ The ship Woodlark has commenced to take in her homeward cargo, and it is expected, as the greater portion of the ship’s freight is already engaged, that she will be ready to proceed on her voyage for London towards the middle of the ensuing month. We have heard, and we trust the report is correct, that the Woodlark will return again to this port from London. The vessel, a composite-built one, and holding the very highest class register, was built in 1870 at Dundee, and may therefore be called almost a new ship. She is no mean sailer, and is in every way suitable for the Auckland trade, she having, although not a ship of very large tonnage, great stowage capacity. The Woodlark also holds out great inducements to passengers, the ship having superior accommodation for saloon and other class passengers. Her saloon is a most comfortab!e, roomy, and tastefully furnished one, whilst her state rooms and bath rooms are unusually large and lofty for a vessel of her size. She has accommodation for 20 saloon passengers, exclusive of two state rooms aft (for families). Intending passengers would do well to inspect the ship, and should they elect to proceed home in her, they will, under the hands of Captain Wood and his officers, have every attention and comfort bestowed upon them.”
