** Millingtary” titles seem scarcely less plentiful in Victoria than in New Zealand. “ Aiticus,*' in the Leader, writes:—The assumption of military titles by Volunteer officers when off duty is ridiculous. Colonels, majors, captains, and lieutenants crop up at every turn. I*wonder if it would astonish the officers of our Volunteer force to learn that a Volunteer officer in Sngland assuming or permitting other persons to address him when off duty by a military title would— if not quite guilty of conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman— be ««t down as an arrant Snob.”
