Messrs Scott and Leonard, the successful contractors for laying the telegraph wire between here and Taupo, are getting on fast. They commenced Ft at at the Taupo end. A petition has been sent by the Ngatiraukawa to the Government, requesting that the telegraph office should be removed from Te Ngae to Chinemutn, and erected on a section of land they have given to the Government for the purpose. This would be on the direct road between Taumnga and Napier. 8 The dispute between Mr Jordan and some of the natives is likely soon to be settled, as 1 understand they have received a further sum of £lO on account. The natives here are likely soon to lease large blocks of land for sheep and cattle runs.
