RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Tuesday, Mat IS. LICENSING MEETING. (Before F E Hamlin, Esq, J P (Chairman), W H Brabant, Esq, JP, and E M Edgcumbe, Esq, J P.) ICAKBTTT BISTBICT. Duncan Robertson applied for a renewal of the heenss for the house known as the Travellers Beat ; police report favourable j granted. Lewis Samuels applied for a renewal of the license for the house known as the Maketu Inn; Police report favourable. Objections to the renewal of this license had been sent in to the clerk of the Bench bj resident natives, but were withdrawn in Court ; the objections raised were that natives did not receive equal attention as Europeans. The Bench pointed out that the house was licensed more especially for travellers up and down the coast, and granted certificate. Thomas Wrigley applied for a renewal of the wholesale license held by him ; granted. John Macpherson applied for a renewal of his bush license at Richmond j police report favou”» able i recommended. F At this stage of the proceedings the Court adjourned till 2 o’clock. Their Worships took their seats at 2 o’clock. (W H Brabant, Esq, J P, Chairman.) OTOTIKI DIBIBICT. John Kelly applied for a renewal of his license for the bouse known as the Royal Hotel at Opotiki { police report favourable ; granted. Hubert Thompson applied tor a renewal of his license for the house known as the Wharf Hotel; police report favourable ; granted. J. R. Rushton applied for a license for a house to be erected at Ohiwa, to be known as the Perry Hotel. The want of a house at Obiwa being much felt, their Worships agreed to grant a license on the house being completed in accordance with the Act, and on the condition that the proprietor find and maintain a good substantial boat for the ferry service. George Simpkins applied for a renewal of his bush license for the house known as the Travellers Rest, Whakatane; police report favourable: recommended. Stewart Bates’ application for a wholesale license lapsed, the applicant not appearing. William Black applied for a wholesale license at Te Awanui ; refused on its merits. The police reported that O. Betts’ house at Te Kaha had not the accommodation required by the Act. This concluded the business.
