TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the Board was held at the office yesterday morning. Present—Captains Tanks (chairman), Tovey, and Norris,- and Messrs famuels and Wrigley, A letter from Mr Bennet was read, explaining the terms upon which he would erect tho proposed } wharf. Captsim Tovey proposed that Mr Bennet’s proposal to erect a wharf be accepted, the same to be built and carried out under the supervision ot the Board’s engineer, and subject M such alterations in plan as he might, think necessary. Mr Wrigley seconded the motion, which was carried, A report from the Engineer as to the erection of fl igsthff, cattle trough, &c.. by Mr Bennet, was read j and (on the motion of Mr Samuels, seconded by Captain Norris) the Secretary was directed t > write to Mr Benue-", and enclose copy of Engineer’s report for his perusal. f n application from Sergeant Naden, for a general authority to proceed against all persons i who may erect buildings or suchlike which may become a nuisance, was then considered. Captain Tovey proposed, and Captain Norris seconded, “ That such ‘authority’ be signed by the chairman and sent to him.” A telegram from the Provincial Secretary and a letter from Mr Bodcll, wharfinger, were read, whereby the wharf was handed over to the Board on the Ist instant; Gazettes defining boundaries and table of fees were also laid upon the table. The Secretary was directed to draw out an advertisement calling for tenders to rent wharf from 15th February until the 31st December next, particulars to be obtained at the office of the Board. The Secretary read a circular from the Provincial Secretary stating the amount of grant for the current year and the terms upon which tho same would be granted—namely, solely on “ new works.” The farther consideration was postponed until a reply could be received from the Provincial Secretary, as to whether the sum requested for the extension of the Beach Road would be placed to the Board’s credit or otherwise.
