EXEMPTION APPEALS

SITTING OF NO. 1 BOARD

A sitting of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board was held in Auckland to-day. Mr. C. R. Orr Walker. S.M., presided and associated with him were Messrs. T. P. McCready and A. M. Samuel.

Appeals by or on behalf of the following reservists were adjourned sine die:—Richard John Ousley, storeman (appeal by the navy); Edmund Percival Hillary, apiarist (appeal by P. A. Hillary); Norman Kingston Clarke, chemist's assistant (appeal by Henry Alton, Limited); Tofiy Cranich, hairdresser and tobacconist; Allan George Cook, machinist (appeal by the Director of National Service); James Murphy, marine cook (appeal by the Director of National Service); Richard Adolphus Oakes. journeyman baker (appeal by the Director of National Service).

The board adjourned the appeal of Stanley Edward Morgan, bricklayer, for a month.

The appeal of Harold Howard Chapman, farmer, was dismissed.

The appeal of C. E. Lawport, Limited, on behalf of Richard Astley Petty, salesman, was dismissed, an order being made that calling up be not before a certain date.

A number of applications for release from camp were*dealt with and in the case of an appeal by William Batty on behalf of John Edward Laskey. stockman, the board recommended the release of the reservist from August 1 to December 31.

The release of Miles John Coulson, boilermaker, and P. McCrosson, shepherd, for indefinite periods was recommended.

The appeal by A. B. Wright and Sons, Limited, on behalf of Walter Dean Drake, motor driver, was dismissed. and that of the Director of National Service on behalf of Clifford Selwyn Grove, farmer, was adjourned for a report from the Production Council.
