MANY CHARGES
PAINTER'S OFFENCES
COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE
Handcuffed to a constable in the dock in the Police Court this morning. Clifford Douglas Keane. agerl 20. a painter, pleaded guilty to ten charges of breaking and entering and theft from dwellings, five charges of theft, two of receiving, one of forgery. one of uttering, one of attempted false pretences, a charge of escaping from lawful custody and another of breach of probation.
The ofTences were committed between September 11, 1941, and Julv in. 1042. The total value of the articles and money involved in the charges amounted to £279 4/3.
Constable S. P. Spence. of W'aihi. said he arrested accused at W'aihi on I- ebruary 1 1 last on a charge of stealing two diamond rings valued at t'_"s at Whakatane on Februarv 0. Keane appeared before the Court at W'aihi on February 14 and was remanded in custody, to appear in Whakatane on February 16. While escorting Keane to Whakatane on February 14 accused escaped from witness by jumping from the train.
Detective I. V. Jones, who arrested Keane in Auckland on July 17, produced J 9 explanations made by Keane in which he admitted the various offences. When arrested Keane had £01 in banknotes in his possession.
Mr. F. If. Levien. S.M., committed Keane to the Supreme Court for sentence.
