DOUR STRUGGLE

Chinese Hit Back Strongly Against Japanese FIGHTING IN THE PROVINCES Rec. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, July 29. The Chungking correspondent of the Associated Press reports that the Chinese troops encircled in the outer regions of Kweiki, along the Che-kiang-Kiangsi railway line, are forcing the Japanese to withdraw inside the towns and fortifications. Fighting also continued southward of Yingtan, another station on the railway.

Chinese troops attacking Linchwan, 60 miles south-east of Wangchang, reached the city's outskirts on Sunday, and are now launching a fierce assault. In the southern tip of Honan Province the Chinese took heavy toll of Japanese troops northwest of Sinyang. The Chinese High Command announces that the Japanese were routed in heavy fighting near Kiangshan, close to the Kiangsi border. Fighting continued around Kwangfeng, in eastern Kiangsi. The Chinese continue to hold off 3000 Japanese who are attempting to dislodge them from the foothills of the Tahung mountains in Hupeh Province.

It is reported from Chungking that the provisional Korean Government has stated 20,000 peasants in northern Korea have been forced by the Japanese to work on engineering projects, including the building and expansion of underground aerodromes and hangars in Rashin and Yuki, which is near Vladivostok.
