SUBMARINE HEROES
ALL HONOURED TOGETHER
Rec. 2 p.m.
RUGBT, July 29.
"We will never forget the great honour Your Majesty has paid us in decorating us all In one body/' said Commander A. C. C. Mlers, whom the King decorated with the Victoria Cross yesterday for daring exploits in the submarine Tor bay. Commander Miers paid a tribute to his officers and crew and said that there was not one among them but felt that the success of the 'British submarines in the Mediterranean were mainly due to their good fortune in being under the command of one of the greatest naval leaders in history, Admiral Cunningham. The Torbay's crew, added Commander Miers, had a fairly eventful time, but the men never failed to amaze him. For instance, they kept score of the depth charges dropped against them with the greatest zest. Twice they had the pleasure of tak'ing American submarine commanding officers on patrol, to the mutual profit of all concerned.
