Strong Japanese Force Arrives In Manchuria CHINESE SUCCESS REPORTED Rec. 1.30 p.m. CHUNGKING, July 28. United Press reports state that the Korean provisional Government at Chungking has received reports that General Yamashita, conqueror of Malaya and Singapore, has arrived in Manchuria with a strong force. A Chinese spokesman declared that the Chinese troops are advancing westward in Kiangsi and have succeeded in widening the gap in the Nan-chang-Hangchow railway to 50 milw Fighting is going on south of Yingtan. Chinese pressure is increasing on Kweiki and a successful Chinese attack was launched northeast of Shangjao (Kwangsinfu), near the eastern border of the Kiangsi Province. In the coastal area of the Chekiang Province the Chinese have evacuated Chenghsien, south-west of Ningpo. This town was recaptured from the Japanese last May. Japanese planes bombed Chungking for the first time this year. Bombs fell in the suburbs. United States planes drove off the enemy, who failed to reach the city.
