GREAT NEW HIGHWAY
625-Mile Lorry Road To Avoid
U-boat Menace U.S.A. TO CANAL ZONE Rec. 10 a.m. NEW YORK, July 28. The State Department announced that the United States is financing the construction of a 625-mile pioneer road from the southern Mexican border to Panama, which will enable the carriage of goods and supplies by land to the Canal zone and Central America, thereby avoiding the submarine menace. The roadway will also serve as a guide for the completion of the Central American link of the permanent interAmerican highway, of which 1000 miles have already been completed. Six Central American Republics are cooperating in the task of emergency road building and are supplying much labour, materials and equipment.
