They 've Got Winning Blood In Their Veins
W llh the new season's racing in sight, more than passing interest attaches to tne progress of rising two-vear-olds at lakanini. Tne coming term should again pro\e a profitable one as the reprc.scntation is formidable, possessing both quality and quantity. The largest team in anyone stable is that of E. Pope, who has a well-balanced lot, including Brief and Meermint. In Hayduk and Good Bay M. Marinovich has a likely pair for earlv racing. The following list gives a summary of the strength of the stables:—
I'. E. Pope.—Br g Brief, by SolicitorGeneral—Gold Paper; b g Meermint, by Vermeer—Speedmint; b f Sweet Biscuit, by Broiefori—Spearform; b f by Haceful —Nora Lee; br f by Oration—Fireclay. F. Smith., —B c by Bulandshar—Legality; ch g by Man's Pal—Cockeye; b g by Dmk—Limeen.

Some of these youngsters claim excellent relationship, the Legality colt being a half-brother to those good performers Bambury, Whirling and Marshall Hall. Brief's dam. Gold Paper, was a sister to the speedster Rereatu. and his appearance suggests the early speed typical of Paper Money stock.
The Speedmint gelding is a fine stamp, an<l he resembles his dam, Speedmint, which won numerous races including the Great Northern Oaks. Sweet Biscuit is a half-sister to the southerner Classform. which has raced with distinction. The Limeen gelding is more like his relative Yalimeen than Beau Vaals. to which he also claims half relationship. Aureola, dam of Foxola. is represented by a nice gelding by Vermeer. while the March gelding, a three-quarter brother to Route March, possesses the same attributes as his well-performed relative at the same age. The Miss Egypt filly, shaping like an early winner, is a half-sister to Cornish: while the Silent Miss filly is a half-sister to Tellsom and the Princess March colt a full-brother to Kiatere Maati.
