CYCLISTS SURPRISED
CITY DRIVE STARTED INSPECTION OP MACHINES Many Auckland cyclists homewardbound after work yesterday were surprised when stopped by officers of the Auckland City Council traffic department, who made a careful inspection of the machines. In the past year a large number of cyclists have been involved in accidents, and the drive is being made to see that bicycles are in proper order, are registered and have all necessary equipment. It has been found that in some cases reflectors have become useless and that white paint has more or less worn off rear mudguards.
The drive, which is in the nature of a general check-up, will be continued for a fortnight, and cyclists not complying with all requirements will have to report at the office of the Traffic Department at the Town Hall to show that directions given to them have been carried out.
