NEW RAIL LINE

WAIROA-GISBORNE LINK GOODS TRAFFIC NEXT MONTH (P A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Although the new Wairoa-Gis-horne lino has not yet reached a stage where it can be taken over by the Railways Department, arrangements have been made with the Public Works Department for the unopened line to be available from August 3 for the conveyance of goods traffic, stated the Minister of Railways, Mr. Semple, to-day. To obviate interference with the work of the Public Works Department, it would be necessary to confine trains to the night running, and it would he possible to provide initially only a limited service, added the Minister. By November it was anticipated that the line would be reacly for passenger traffic with a convenient time-table.
