PETROL LICENSES
TRUCKS AND VANS
REVIEW BY CONTROLLERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Local oil fuel controllers have been instructed to review all existing petrol licenses for privately owned trucks and vans, with the object of reducing vehicle mileage and conserving tyres, according to an announcement by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Semple, to-day. Local controllers will discuss the position with representatives of those affected in order to work out satisfactory zoning or other suitable schemes. Petrol and tyres will then be allocated according to requirements.
Considerable zoning had already been applied, said Mr. Semple, and this action was being taken because of the urgent necessity of obtaining uniformity throughout the country. He was taking special steps to zone the transport of milk and cream to dairy factories, and divert the cartage of cheese and butter wherever possible from the roads.
