PENSIONS
?■> to thank Charles Lawrin, A.P.A. official, for his answer to my letter. May Ibe permitted to quote a few facts about our social security. He says the children of these pensioners are required to pay a levy, but does not state the benefits they are entitled to under the Act. The annual report of the Department states that from the year 1920 to 1930 the number of beneficiaries showed an increase of 7349, with an increase in the payment of £450,000. Then from the year 1935 until July, 1J42, the increase again in the number of beneficiaries was 131,029. with L increase in the payment of i5,b47,408. I am sure our beneficiaries will appreciate these solid tacts, and as for borrowing millions out of the "magician's hat" for this war, well, it was a terrible heartache for every decent citizen in this country of ours to even know we were faced with the task of having to find r .^ ar ' we did not want it, fight the enemy we wilL, and so that our sons can info fr, ? ls countr y a place safe to live in for our aged people.
