THE EGG REGULATIONS
Numbers of producers are still supplying direct to storekeepers and this practice is quite legal until the recently-framed regulations are enforced, which will probably be within the coming week. After that eggs may be sold only to thfe recognised egg merchants or to the newlvorganised Poultrymen's Co-operative Society. This society has completed verv economical distributive arrangements and after meeting these costs the balance of the standard deduction of Ih. per cent will belong to the suppliers. This co-operative movement, which is already strongly supported, has naturally inspired a good deal of hard thinking in some quarters and it is reported that attractive rebates are being discussed. The prize is, of course, those producers who have not yet committed themselves by sending their eggs to one of the six established floors. Rebates suggest a nice profit in the 7h per cent discount and the founders of the co-operative society are hoping the free producers will recognise this and consign theii eges to the society where, they are assured the returns will provide for no proprietary profits or costly management expenses. The competition is keen and promises to grow until the enforcement of the regulations, after which all of Auckland's eggs will be marshalled on to six floors.— (P.8.A.)
