RAILWAY SLIP
HOLD-UP NEAR PATEA (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Railway Department expected that the slip near Patea would be cleared about 11.30 a.m. to-dav. Maintenance gangs worked all nieht. u heavy rain fell in the vicinity and subsidence occurred just north of the Patea railway vard. Engines were unable to pass this, but emptv carriages would be shunted across and passengers walk. Expresses each way suffered a delay of about two hours.
