MAISIE'S LUCK
WINS £2000 PRIZE
PRETTY FACTORY GIRL
When Maisie Pilbrow a pretty girl of 19 who works in the factory of Alexander Harvey and Sons, Ltd,, was told by a fellow employee this morning that she had just won the Black Cat art union first prize of £2000, she was at first frankly incredulous, suspecting a friendly joke.
When at last she was convinced of her great good fortune Maisie celebrated with two pies and decided to take the rest of the day off.
As Maisie set out for home to share the great news, her mother, who had just heard the glad tidings over the radio at their modest home in Collingwood Street, I'onsonby, the latter was already on her way into town to break the news to her iucky daughter.
Neighbours of the family speak in the highest terms of Maisie, whom they have particularly admired for her fine character ar.d her past ability to acquire a poise and polish despite her unpretentious factory work. They were unanimous in the opinion that the £2000 could not have gone to a more worthy home and to a girl likely to make better use of it than Maisie.
Maisie is the eldest of a familv of three girls and one bov. Her father is employed on the city tramwavs. nils was the first ticket Mai'sie had ever bought—a clear case of beginner s luck!
Jhe lucky winner has not vet decided what she will do with her modest fortune, but now sees her way clear to develop a natural love lor music.
