HEAVY RESERVE FUNDS (0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Radio broadcasting reports this year have been cut to the limit to save paper, and the usual balancesheets do not accompany the details submitted to Parliament. It is stated that the revenue of the National Broadcasting Service for the year amounted to £460,689, of which £420,200 comprised license fees. There was a surplus of £199,559 for the year, the report stating: "A further £260,000 was invested during the year to provide for future development, and to overtaking arrears of construction and equipment which have been held up owing to war conditions, making a total of £800,000 now invested for this purpose.''

There has been a six-fold increase in receiving licenses in 11 years, and the national service is supplying programmes to 16 stations. It still subsidises two privately owned stations. An overseas unit of the service has ranged from Egypt east to Palestine. Syria, Transjordania and Irak, anrl west to Tobruk, and it has been able to present to New Zealand listeners over 2800 greetings from our men serving overseas, also 180 talks and commentaries from the fighting services. Revenue of the Commercial Broadcasting Service last year totalled £205,953 and the net pr °fit was £62,983, being an improvement- of £10.000
