BAN MAY BE RAISED
AUSTRALIAN COMMUNISTS Rec. 1 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. The ban on the Australian Communist party will be removed by the Federal Government immediately. Negotiations with the Soviet Government for the exchange of envoys has been completed. The Daily Telegraph says this is reported in high official quarters. In answer to an inquiry whether the Government intended to grant the request of the Trade Union Conference six weeks ago to lift the ban, a majority of the Federal Cabinet is said to be satisfied that the Communist party's early opposition to the war had changed completely, and that most Australian Communists were wholly behind the war effort.
