TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
SKI CliUB DEPUTATION Endeavours are being made by representatives of mountain clubs, whose activities are centred on National Park, to arrange a deputation to the Minister of Transport, Mr. Semple, who is to visit Auckland at the end of this week, in view of the effect on the clubs created by the 100-mile railway travel restriction which comes into force on Monday. The president of the Ruapehu Ski Club, Mr. N. A. Campbell, stated thot Auckland followers of mountain sport felt that some consideration might be given to them before the clubs had to cease all activity, as it was recognised everywhere that the maintenance of athletic sports was in the national interest. Skiing had proved of direct military value, as former ski club members with the New Zealand Division had been able to act as instructors in military ski-ing in Syria. Before the restriction was announced, some 500 reservations had been made to travel to National Park rluring the school term holidays, from August 22 to September 1. The bookings included large parties from secondary schools.
