VERY REV. DR. BUXTON
PARISHIOXERS' GIFTS The close of 181 years' devoted ministry as administrator of St. Patrick's Cathedral parish was marked last night by a large gathering of parishioners in the Unitv Hall, when the Very Rev. Dr. Buxton, recently elevated to the position of parish priest of St. John's, Parnell. was the recipient of presentation gifts. From the parishioners Dr. Buxton received a chesterfield suite and a canteen of cutlery, and from the Children of Mary a silver tea-set. Mr. James McKean. on behalf of the parish committee, said Dr. Buxton had spent the greater part of his life at St. Patrick's, where he had begun as an altar-boy. Everything he had attempted he had done well-—indeed he had never had a failure. All the people loved him.
Right Rev. Monsignor Holbrook. of Grey Lynn, a former administrator, described Dr. Buxton as among the best administrators of the past 40 years, and '"easily the most efficient.
Bishop Liston. who presided, said the peoples' presents were a token of then- gratitude and appreciation. Richly endowed with gifts. Dr. Buxton had sppnt those gifts in God s honour and for the spiritual welfare of the parishioners. The "imperishable days" of the Catholic Centenary, now written into the history of the Church in this countrv would perpetuate the name of Dr. Buxton, who had been a singularlv successful organiser.
