The Nazi submarine which torpedoed this tanker in the Atlantic, hundreds of miles from South America, was not content with its deadlywork, but surfaced and riddled the flaming tanker with gunfire as the crew tried to take to the lifeboats. These pictures, taken from one of the lifeboats, show the blazing vessel about to sink, and below the shell holes in the side of the ship.
