WINTER TROTTING

EPSOM ATTRACTION

Patriotic Carnival On Saturday

M. STEWART'S TEAM ARRIVES

Quite a number of horses with engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club's war relief fund meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday have already put in an appearance at Epsom, and prominent among them are Josette, Cyone Gir!, Narbada and Gallant N'avy, four members of M. Stewart's usually powerful Te Hapa team. Narbada is engaged in the Churchill Handicap, principal event, and Cyone Girl, a smart sprinter, is an acceptor for the United .Nations Handicap, a 2.14 mile.

The cinders track, which was in firstclass order, was available to trainers this morning, and Cavalryman, the favourite for the Churchill, was on a tight rein while covering a mile and a half in 3.35. Lan Morrison has the son of Nobleman in grand condition, and this horse should take a power of beating. Anpther pacer to please was Hillcrest (I. Morrison), which conceded Flower Potts (R. August) four seconds' start over a mile and a quarter and finished on terms in 2.53. The last half-mile was put by in 1.6.

There was nothing between two improvers, Modern Parrish (McGuire) and Magic Task (J. Mcßride), with Royal Palm (P. Rogers) beaten off, as they concluded a mile and a quarter in 2.51 2-5, the final half-mile in 1.8 2-5.

Others to get through useful tasks were Might Surprise, Moko Direct, Parrish Boy, Peter Travis, Bon Haven and Jewel Junior.

NET PROFIT £588

In his annual report to be presented , at the annual general meeting of mem- J bers of the Auckland Trotting Club to- ' morrow, the president. Mr. E. G. Bridgens, J states that after writing off the usual * depreciation, and providing £3004 taxation, the net profit for the year was £586. Because the racing days hitherto enjoyed t by the club had been reduced from eleven i to eight, it had been decided to reduce the annual subscription from 14 4/ to C 3 3/. I For the five vacant seats on the com- , mittee the nominations received were:— I Messrs. B. W. Beaumont, G. W. H. Bull, M. G. Pezaro, A. E. Watkins and R. Wright, and for the eight vacant seats on the stewards, Messrs. A. M. Bartley, J. P. Kalaugher, H. T. King, T. McKay, W. W. Massey, C. F\ Nicholson, C. J. W. Taylor and S. Ward. As the nominations do not exceed the number required to bfc elected, no election is necessary.
