FERTILISER RATION
QUESTION OF INEQUALITY
MANPOWER FOR FARMS
WHANGAREI, Sunday.
Inequality in the distribution of fertilisers, in that the same ration was available to men on rich land as those on poor land, was referred to at a meeting of the Whangarei Primary Production Council. It was decided to draw the attention of the Minister of Primary Production, Mr. Poison, to the matter.
Information regarding investigations into deposits of phosphates in the South Island is to be sought by the council, which- is also asking the Minister that sufficient phosphate rock, imported or local, should be made available to enable slag works at Huntly to function. In a letter the Minister drew attention to the Government's decision regarding the retention of manpower lor production on farms. Where appeals w'ere not lodged production councils were asked to appeal where desirable in the national interest. The council would also have the duty of investigating conditions on farms, reporting regarding cases of hardship and deciding whether sufficient manpower had been left, and, if not, recommending the recall of men either temporarily or permanently. A committee was appointed to deal with manpower questions, and other matters of vital importance. It was a l so . decided to appoint the directors ot the four dairy companies in the district and such other men considered necessary to supply informai x. ln conn ection with manpower and farms to the executive.
