TO AUSTRALIA

TRIP BY MR. FRASER

U.S. MINISTER TO N.Z. ALSO (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, left by air this morning for Australia, where it is his intention to undertake discussions with Mr. Curtin and the Commonwealth Government on the war situation and other matters of mutual interest to the two countries. Mr. Fraser will also meet General Douglas Mac Arthur, Allied Commander in the South-west Pacific. The American Minister to New Zealand, Brigadier-General Patrick Hurley, travelled to Australia on the same plane. Other members of the party were Mr. C. A. Berendsen, permanent head of the Prime Minister's Department, Mr. B. C. Ashwin, Secretary of the Treasury, and Mr. W. O. Harvey, private secretary.

General Huiley was accompanied by the Military Attache to the Legation, Colonel J. H. Nankivell, and his private secretary, Mr. J. E. Horner.

It is not anticipated that Mr Fraser will be absent from New Zealand for more than a few days.
