OUTCOME OF WAR
NO STALEMATE POSSIBLE British Official Wireless. Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY. July 17. "The outcome of this war will determine the fate of every part of the world. No stalemate or half-way house is possible," Mr. J. G. Winant, the American Ambassador to Britain, declared in a speech to-day. The issue, he said, was that the whole world would be dominated by a brutal all-pervading tyranny, stretching into every sphere of private and public life beyond the powers of the tyrants of ancient and medieval times, or that the peoples would be able to continue towards the development of a civilisation from which oppression, wretchedness and want would be removed. Mr. Winant again stressed the obligation on the United Nations to keep the peace after it was won and their duty to do away with living conditions which were a breeding ground of discontent, on which Nazi and Fascist movements flourished.
