FAVOURS UNION
METHODIST MISSION BOARD Although a number of young men have been called into camp, the youth work of the Methodist Central Mission is in a healthy condition and membership has increased. This was revealed at the quarterly meeting of the board of management of the mission. Over .'3O men connected with the mission are serving in the forces. It was also reported to the meeting that Astlev House. Mount Albert, had been opened. £(>()() had been spent on furnishings and equipment and that the house, which was for old women, was now full. The chief business of the meeting was the discussion of the pioposed basis of church union with the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches. The meeting agreed unanimously on the principle of church union and strongly urged that negotiations should proceed, but the basis, as submitted, was not acceptable to the meeting, which recommended co-operation in country districts, combined meetings and 'interchange of pulpits, in the meantime.
