NAVAL CASUALTY
SOUTHLAND FOOTBALLER KILLED (P. A.) INVERCARGILL. this day. News that a former Southland Rugbyrepresentative had been killed in action was received in Invercargill last night. He was Sub-Lieutenant W. L. Crawford. R.N'.Z.N.V.R., who played in provincial teams from 10:i4 to 1938, distinguishing himself as fast loose forward. He was a member of the staff of the Bank of Australasia. and was transferred to Christchurch in 1030 and later to Blenheim. From Marlborough he left to begin training at the Naval College in England.
