DISLIKED ARMY
SOONER GO TO GAOL
YOUNG MAN'S SENTENCE
A man who was willing to serve in the navy or air force, but refused to serve as a soldier, was sent <n prison by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M.. in the Ponce Court to-dav.
He was Stanley Leonard George Holgersson. who pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to render military service.
Senior-Sergeant Harlev said Hoigersson had been attached for service with the army within New Zealand and served with the Waikato Regiment, but he was later transferred to the air force. Then he was transferred back to the army, but he failed to report for mobilisation. "He says he would sooner go to gaol than serve in the army," added Mr. Harlev.
"Is that correct—you won't serve in the army?" asked Mr. Luxford.
Holgersson: Yes, sir, 1 would sooner go to gaol. The magistrate sentenced Holgersson to two months' imprisonment.
