HEAVIEST FROST
AUCKLAND FREEZE-UP
Few parts of Auckland city and , esca P ed this mornings frost, the heaviest of the year, when the province experienced a severe freeze in the sudden change to southern conditions. At Albert Park the ground temperature was down to 29 degrees, 13 degrees lower than on the previous night and 22 degrees lower than at the beginning of the ihiCTWt t st seen even on the highest parts of. the park and around the fountain until well after 9 o'clock The sudden drop to 3 degrees below freezing point took the thermometer 1.2 degrees lower than in the coldest snap last month, but not as J aS r,r, A J bert Park 's minimum of about 27 degrees. In other parts of the metropolitan area and beyond Aucklanders saw hedges and roofw£!i as lawns and gardens, mantled white even in the sheltered seaside suburbs, while to the south the landscape suggested winter's best. While compelling Aucklanders to don warm coats, furs and eloves and to turn on heaters, the frost brought a welcome promise of a fine week-end.
