E-BOATS SCATTER
LT.-COMMANDER'S EXPLOIT British Official Wireless. Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY, July 15. The Admiralty has now given details of a previous exploit of Lieuten-ant-Commander R. P. Hichens, who commanded the light coastal forces which sank an enemy tanker to-day. At dusk one day a short time ago two boats under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Hichens were on patrol when they encountered a number of E-boats. The British patrol was heavily outnumbered, but it engaged the enemy and scored many hits. One boat was seen to burst into flames. One almost certainly was destroyed, but the British boats were too busy to make certain. A few minutes after contact the enemy scattered and made for home, but not before he had suffered many casualties. The British casualties were slight, and little damage was done to the boats.
