JOURNALIST'S POST
(0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. Geoffrey Cox, New Zealand Khodes scholar, has been appointed first secretary to the New Zealand Legation in Washington. Mr. Cox who was born in Palmerston North in 1910, has won distinction as a descriptive writer and his account of he rvew Zealanders" evacuation of Crete, in which he participated, is regarded as one of the best word pictures of the present war. He was erroneously reported missing on this occasion.
He saw the retreat of the British Expeditionary Force from Northern b ranee, narrowly escaping death when a church in which he took refuge was bombed. Having seen fighting in Spain, Finland, Belgium and Snrf nc £' " e enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. His wife, and two children live in Auckland.
