PATRIOTIC WORK
COUNCIL'S ACTIVITIES SUCCESS OP SHOP The Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, who presided at the monthly meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Council held yesterday, expressed appreciation of the wonderful work accomplished by the women's activities sub-committee of the council. The house report, presented by Miss B. E. Carnachan, stated that the work had been concentrated on preparing mittens, balaclavas and scarves for delivery to the army for distribution to men serving in the Auckland province. The report of the Navy League's women's committee, presented by Mrs. R. G. Coats, stated that 3559 parcels for New Zealand men serving in the Royal Navy had been packed. The knitting circle had completed 980 articles and the sewing circle 1453. The reception sub-committee report, presented by Mrs. A. E. Moore, stated that overseas visitors had been entertained, and the information bureau had been of great help. It was reported that the Patriotic Shop was meeting with great success. The sum of £44 was taken last week and in eleven weeks of its existence £280 had been tken.
