THE LIBERTY LOAN
The watersiders and the slaughtermen have had their wages repeatedly raised to such an extent that at present they are the highest paid toilers in the Dominion. In two nights one man as a casual on the wharf at Auckland earned £5 13/4 as stated by him in the Opotiki News. I-. am informed slaughtermen are paid very well. Surely if the Liberty Joan needs to be fully subscribed Mr. Fraser could call on these "poor toilers" to accept 50 per cent of their wages in bonds and the balance in cash, and that would not reduce them to the "living wage" of the old age pensioners, and would provide the present Government with yet another source of revenue. The waterside workers' earnings in Wellington are to be available for publication and it would be illuminating if the same publicity were given to the earnings on the Auckland wharf. HARRISON.
