BIG SYDNEY FIRE
CHILDREN'S CONFESSION
SYDNEY. May 29.
A boy. aged 10. and a girl, aged 11, are alleged to have admitted to the police that they started fires at Botany which caused £20.000 worth of damage. The reason they gave for their action was that they wanted to see a fire.
Statements made to the police revealed that the children wandered into works containing plant and wool worth nearly £1.000.000. and set fire to a heap of brown paper near stacks of wool. When the powdered wool and other highly-inflammable packing were ignited there was an explosion, and the children had to run for their lives before flames blocked their escape. Because of their age it is unlikeiv that charges will be preferred against them. The police will probably look to their parents to administer punishment.
