RETURNS FOR MAY

There were 38 less births registered in Auckland this month than last May, the total being 369, compared with 407 in May last vear. To date, however, the total for the year is 1903, against 1853 for the corresponding period last year. Deaths decreased from 240 in May last year to 232, but here also the total"has increased from 985 up to the end of May, 1941, to 1048 for the same period this year.

Marriage notices issued this month showed a decline, the total being 171 as against 268 in 1941. Notices issued for the year to date are 1095, compared with 1206 up to the end of May last year. Marriages bv the registrar numbered 45 for both this and last May. So far this year 271 marriages have been performed by the registrar, against 254 during the same period last year.
