The New Zealand Trotting Calendar lias published statistics showing (10 horses that, have won C.jOO or more during the season, although only 17 are credited with £1000 or more. At the top of the list is the New Zealand Cup winner. Josedale ('.rattan, with £2255. Second on the list is Burt Scott with C22GO. .Tosedale Crattan has finished racing for the season, but Hurt Scott claims engagements in two races at Ashburton and a minor placing in either would put, him at the top of the list. Another good winner is Springfield Globe with £21 IS. anil then follow: — Haughty £178(1. Clockwork £1705, Nelson Eddy £14 7.1. Certissimus fMriO. Pacing Power £14.'!7 10/. I'enuku £1415. Trotters appearing in the . list include Certissimus, who died earlier in the season, Mali Jong and Margin. PROFITABI.F FACER At the Ascot meeting (Victoria!, held last month, the totalisator investments totalled only £989. but a stronger ring of bookmakers than usual was in attendance. The Combined Handicap of nine furlongs was won by the New-Zealand bred Takanini. by Grattan Eoyal—Choice. In writing of this performance, the Trotting Record says that although Pink Globe ran a good race. Takanini (24yds behind! caught him a furlong from home and won nicely by half a yard. This marked the 12th win scored by the former New Zealhnder. and he was at a very short price. Takanini ill bis nine furlongs race averaged better than 2.14 to the mile. In Now Zealand. Takanini proved a bit too playful to be backed with confidence, but hN uresent owner-trainer. G. Gath. who is fond of solving knottv problems in horseflesh, took a risk that proved profitable. Takanini. who is regarded as one of the best horses in Australia, was bred by F. Holmes, and is by Grattan T,rival—Choice, by T.ogan Pointer—Tit Bits. Choice also left Free I>ogan, Pro Rata and Donum. WATXA AVATXA Out of nine races for two-year-olds decided in New South Wales and Victoria during the last few seasons, no fewer than eight, winners are by Walla Walla.
