CYCLIST'S DEATH

COLLISION WITH BUS INQUEST OPENED TO-DAY <0.C.) WHANG ARE I. this day. Coming into collision with an Auckland-bound service bus shortly after eight this morning a cyclist, James Valentine Chapman, aged 41. married, with four children, a labourer. of Ofaika, received injuries from which he died soon afterwards. The accident occurred at the intersection of Portland Road with the Auckland-Whangarei main highway. Oliver James Sorensen was driving the service bus. An inquest was opened bv the coroner. Mr. G. H. Morrish, and evidence of identification was given. The medical superintendent of the Whangarei Hospital. Dr. J. W. Hall, said that Chapman was dead when brought to the hospital. He suffered fractures of the base of the skull, the right thigh and both bones of the right leg. Death was due to injury to the brain, following, the fractured skull. The inquest was adjourned.
